Cairns Weather Info
because Cairns is situated in tropical North Australia, most visitors
usually come in our dry season, which is from May to
November. Although each year more people also choose to holiday in Cairns in the
wet or green season.
Both times of year have
something different to offer visitors.
Because of
very pleasant winter temperatures you will always find there are a lot of
visitors from other parts of Australia and overseas in Cairns during the Dry
Season to escape the cold temperatures of the northern hemisphere and
our southern cities. The reef is very good at this time of year and is busy with many people taking advantage of the idyllic conditions.
Even though the summer (the 'wet' or as we prefer to call it - the
"green" season) is a lot more humid and there is a higher likelihood
of rain the conditions on the reef are pretty close to perfect with the best
underwater visibility in the summer, sometimes reaching 50 metres plus! There is
often very little wind making conditions almost perfect. I think the worst months for humidity are from October
through to January which normally corresponds with the thunderstorm season
before the start of the monsoon rains. If you are considering travelling
here during the wet season you must remember that most of our yearly rainfall
does occur in the summer months usually late afternoon, early morning and overnight.
